Where the fire of the earth meets the blue of the Saronic Gulf.
Often mistaken for an island, Methana is actually a dramatic volcanic peninsula attached to the Peloponnese. With over 30 dormant volcanic craters, it offers a rugged, “off-the-beaten-path” experience that combines therapeutic thermal springs with ancient history.
The most famous of Methana’s 32 volcanoes. A well-marked trail leads you through a forest of pine trees that eventually gives way to a lunar landscape of black lava rocks. The view from the rim of the 3rd-century BC crater is breathtaking.
Famous since antiquity, the sulfur-rich waters of Methana are known for their healing properties. You can visit the neoclassical bathhouse in the main town or find the Pausanias Baths to the north, where hot springs mix directly with the sea water.
A serene, horseshoe-shaped harbor that serves as a sanctuary for sailors. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy traditional seafood at a waterfront taverna while watching the sunset over the mountains of the Peloponnese.
